Lee Chun Soo bio | press

Lee Chun-Soo (born 9 July 1981) is a football player from South Korea. He was a key member of his national team during the 2002 World Cup and the 2004 Summer Olympics. He also wrote a book on his World Cup experience, accusing former national team coach Guus Hiddink of excessively using foul language with players. Known for his controversial off-field comments to the media, Lee also criticized several teammates in the book.

After the World Cup, Lee moved to Real Sociedad of Spain, becoming the first Korean to play in the Spanish La Liga. However, after a season of mediocre performances, Lee was moved on loan to fellow Spanish side Numancia, before returning to Ulsan Hyundai Horang-i of South Korea's K-League.

Though Lee joined Ulsan in the middle of the season, his performance proved to be invaluable to Ulsan's triumph as the champions of the 2005 season with a hat-trick in the first leg of the league finals. He subsequently was named the K-League's Most Valuable Player on December 28, 2005.

In the 2006 World Cup, he scored South Korea's first goal with a free-kick against Togo in a 2-1 win. ESPN dubbed Lee as the "ugliest player in the World Cup", as he sported a blonde mushroom-style haircut throughout the team's games.

On August 31, 2007, he agreed in principle to join Feyenoord for a reported transfer fee of €2 million. He had previously been linked with a transfer to English powerhouse Chelsea due to the club's heavy influence in South Korea, but talks between the club and Lee never actually surfaced.

[edit] Personal life

He began dating Korean actress Kim Ji-Yoo in 2005. She won the title of Miss Korea in 2001. At one point, rumours surfaced that he proposed to her, but he later denied these, saying he wasn't thinking about marriage in the near future. They broke up in August 2006.[3]
