Segundo Alejandro Castillo Nazareno (born May 15, 1982 in San Lorenzo, Esmeraldas, Ecuador) is an Ecuadorian footballer who plays as a midfielder for Red Star Belgrade in the Serbian Superliga.
[edit] International Career
He broke into the Ecuadorian national team in 2005 and made his debut against Venezuela and was included in their squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup due to his remarkable willingness to attack even as a defensive midfielder.
On May 24, 2006 in a friendly game against Colombia, he scored a goal for his country in the second half. They later tied 1-1 in New York.[1] His impressive display against the Colombian team later earned him a starting lineup position for Ecuador in the World Cup, and he remains one of Ecuador's best players today.
[edit] Club Career
On August 31, 2006 he signed a two year deal with Serbian side Red Star Belgrade, former European Cup champions, from El Nacional in Quito. He scored an impressive 8 goals during his first season at his new club and he was the key to reach the double in Serbia, being rated as a world class player.
He was spotted by many important European clubs, and in July 2007 it was believed that Castillo had reached an agreement with Italian powerhouse Juventus FC.[2] However, Red Star chose to keep him for the remaining pre-season to strengthen their efforts to qualify for the 2007-08 UEFA Champions League.
